Staircases come in all shapes and sizes. If your staircase doesn’t fit the conventional requirements needed for a straight stairlift then you might well be wondering whether a stairlift will fit your stairs or your home at all.
A common question we get asked a lot here at Halton Stairlifts is “Can a stairlift be fitted to any stairs?” But did you know that it’s possible to get stairlifts for all kinds of stairs? This includes straight stairs, curved stairs with multiple bends, narrow stairs, stairs with multiple flights, and even spiral stairs too. From narrow hallways, to irregularly shaped doorways and landings, we’ve put together a simple guide that highlights all your stairlift space requirements. Read on to find out more.
Stairlifts for staircases that bend or turn
Surprisingly, there is actually no maximum width needed in order for a stairlift to be installed. The only thing necessary is a wall or rail along one side of the stairs – as this is where the stairlift track will be fitted. If you have a staircase that has turns, bends or twists in it, then a curved stairlift is the answer for you. A big advantage of a curved stairlift is that often there’s no need to swivel the seat at the top of the stairs. The stairlift can often travel on to the landing allowing the user to simply step off effortlessly. You can find out more about Halton’s range of curved stairlifts here.
Stairlifts for narrow stairs
Many properties in the UK, particularly older buildings, often tend to have narrow or steep stairs. If you have a staircase that’s particularly tight or narrow, you might be concerned that there’s not enough room for a stairlift. But, with so many modern options available, ruling out a stairlift all together doesn’t have to be the case. By purchasing a stairlift from a reputable company, you’re opening yourself up to a much wider pool of stairlift possibilities. Whether reconditioned or brand new, Halton Stairlifts have a specially designed collection of stairlifts specifically suited to narrow stairs. They’re known as slimline stairlifts and can be neatly folded away when not in use so they don’t pose a tripping hazard or an obstruction on the stairs.
Stairlifts for steep stairs
As with narrow staircases, steep stairs can be common in older build properties. If you’re looking for a stairlift to fit a more awkward-shaped staircase, then compact stairlifts are a great option. Compact stairlifts take up less room than a standard stairlift, but they’re just as durable and reliable. Another option to consider in this case would be a Perched or Standing stairlift. You can read more about those here.
