The bond between the dog and the owner is unbreakable. There are many reasons why dogs are called ‘man’s best friend’, they are loyal, protective and filled with unconditional love. Our four-legged friends are by your side regardless of the time, weather or situation. As is the case with most owners of lovable animals, we are always grateful for their presence – especially when times are tough. So when the tables are turned and things aren’t going well for our canine pals, it is only natural that the same attention and care they display is returned.

Though most dogs are perfectly capable of climbing the stairs, similar to humans – age can play a part in mobility. Mobility can decline with animals as they get older, meaning that they may lose some of their agility with arthritis being the biggest cause.

As arthritis sets in, this will mean that they find it hard to do things they once did with ease. This can be enjoying energetic activities all the way to climbing the stairs to go to bed. But what can you do for them?

How to help your dog with arthritis

Should your dog starts to struggle with arthritis, there are certain things you as a loving dog owner to help your canine out. One of these things is to either shorten the lengths of your daily walks – or at least make them less trying. For instance, if you have a driving license, perhaps drive your dog to the park and then let it out when you arrive to enjoy the fields at its own pace.

Another great way is to let your dog enjoy a comfortable bed to rest. After a long day of people walking past your home, enjoying the garden and lovely food – your dog will be ready for bedtime. A cosy, soft bed is exactly what your dog will need to help relax its muscles.

We also recommend that you keep your dog from climbing the stairs as this can be difficult for your best friend to do with arthritis. A great way to fix this is by carrying your best friend up and down the stairs. Although, if you need assistance climbing the stairs yourself through the use of a stairlift, don’t worry – take your canine with you!

Do we offer stairlifts for dogs?

Unfortunately, we don’t make stairlifts for dogs, however, that doesn’t mean that you can’t carry your dog on it. Whether you have a straight stairlift or a curved stairlift, you can put your dog on your lap and let it enjoy the ride up.
